1. How everything started?
All started without me realizing it. I was born in Tinos on this ”sculpture landscape” with dry stones that our ancestors’ need, fatigue and years of experience have created. By this way, this important and unique “landscape sculpture” was finally created. Perhaps that made me see and think in the ”space” and ”time” in a
three-dimensional way. For me sculpture is an experience that fulfils me. It gives a meaning, rhythm and limit to my life and existence.
2. We can ”see” nature in your art. Does nature inspire you through all your long and successful career?
Nature is the primary and dominant sense we receive from the moment we begin to perceive the world, the light and the darkness. It is sculpture’s privilege to process materials and means that can render what we receive from this energy.
3. Do you believe that art can relieve humans from emotions as excessive stress and anxiety?
Firstly, I believe that art is redemptive. There are many occasions that we cannot face reality and with the help of art, by interpreting it, we transform it and bring it closer to us.
4. Was there a sculpture or series of artworks that you particularly enjoyed creating and why?
Every kind of sculpture in every aspect has an interest and a uniqueness. So, every time, you discover unexpected things, and you never stop having this liveliness to express every single thing. One such example is the stone mystic rocks that emerge from behind my village, that have haunted me, and always expand the concept of sculpture in me.
5. If you can choose one place that you feel the most relaxed, that you are able to empty your mind and get inspired, what place would that be?
We find all around us, elements as the air, the sea, the sky and the soil. As the poet says, that encourage us to go deep to art, to dream and to rest from its work.
